Our Goose Sound

In the month of May we will be working on our final sound of the month, the 'Goose' sound, /g/!

Use the following ideas/worksheets to target our "g" sound this month:

• in isolation practice in front of the mirror, open your mouth wide to say it in the "back!"  You can even trying lying on the floor, or on the grass outside and practice saying our "g" sound.
• CV combinations (go, ge, gi, gu, etc.) while playing with toys or games
• these sheets for initial /g/ and final /g/ at the word level
• then use the above sheets along with these initial /g/ and final /g/ to practice at the phrase level

All of our sheets for our goose sound are from Mommy Speech Therapy . During drill work you can cue your child to remember and "do it in the back" for correct placement, as this is what we will be talking about during group.  But keep this minimal during daily routines.  /g/ can be a tricky one for some kids, especially because you can't see it produced as easily as other sounds (/f/, /m/, etc.).  If your little one starts getting frustrated, just back off and do some auditory bombardment during play.  This is when you say as many words with our sound in it as you can think of, in a short amount of time… for example, "...here comes the green goose, he's going to get some gum for the game."  Even though your child won't be producing the sound, they will be hearing it over and over, which is helping to train their ear, and in turn help with production of the sound later on.  Have fun with our "g" sound!!

Move Like This

Next week we will be doing fun things with our "clicking camera" sound.  Here is our learning card:

We will be reading "The K Book:" 

It's a nice way to do auditory bombardment, something I talk about often in my posts about the sound of the month.  After we read the book, we will practice some words that have our "k" sound it in, especially some actions that have our "clicking camera" sound.  Next, we will play 'move like this.'  We will try to think of actions or animals to move like, but they have to have our "k" sound in it (kick, kangaroo, cough, catch, kitten, etc.).  We will focus on actions and past tense-ed.  Our weekly handout talks about how to teach children past tense.  It is from Speech and Language Kids, again! :) If you need some action cards, try these from Testy Yet Trying.  

Our 'Clicking Camera' Sound

• CV combinations (ko, ke, ki, ku, etc.) while playing with toys or games
• these sheets for initial /k/ and final /k/ at the word level
• then initial /k/ and final /k/ at the phrase level

All of our sheets for our clicking camera sound are from Heather's Speech Therapy. The Vacuum Sound

This month we will be working on our vacuum sound, the "v" sound.

Use the following ideas/worksheets to target our "v" sound this month:

• in isolation practice in front of the mirror or with a computer video
• CV combinations (vo, ve, vi, vu, etc.) while playing with toys or games
• these sheets for initial /v/ and final /v/ at the word level
• use the above sheets to focus on initial /v/  and final /v/ at the sentence level

All of our sheets for our vacuum sound are from Mommy Speech Therapy!  There is also a wonderful article on teaching /f/ and /v/ to your children, so if this is a sound we are working on at school, this article may help with practice at home.  During drill work you can cue your child to "bite your lip" for correct placement, as this is what we will be talking about during group.  But keep this minimal during daily routines.  Also, to talk about the difference between /f/ and /v/, we will be feeling our throats/vocal folds while producing each sound.  We will talk about how we "turn on" our voice for the /v/ sound.  When we turn on our voice, we should be able to feel the vibrations in our throat.  You can practice this at home as well.  Keep in mind, this sound may be a later developing sound for some of the students; /f/ is usually mastered by age 4, where /v/ is later, between 5 and 6 years of age.  

Ffffffeather Dancing

The Fan Sound

This month we will be focusing on the "f" sound, our fan sound!

Use the following ideas/worksheets to target our "f" sound this month:

• in isolation practice in front of the mirror
• CV combinations (fo, fe, fi, fu, etc.) while playing with toys or games
• these sheets for initial /f/ and final /f/ at the word level
• then initial /f/ at the phrase level

All of our sheets for our fan sound are from Heather's Speech Therapy. During drill work you can cue your child to "bite your lip" for correct placement, as this is what we will be talking about during group.  But keep this minimal during daily routines.  Have fun with our "f" sound!!

The Nose Sound

This month we will be talking about our nose sound, "N."

Use the following ideas/worksheets to target our "n" sound this month:

• in isolation practice in front of the mirror
• CV combinations (no, ne, ni, nu, etc.) while playing with toys or coloring
• this sheets from Mommy Speech Therapy for initial /n/ and final /n/ at the word level
• then use the above sheets along with this sheet for initial /n/ and final /n/ to make sentences

The Monkey Sound

We are finally focusing on one sound this month!  It will be our monkey sound, "m."  

Use the sheets below to practice throughout the month of December.  
Isolation/CV combos: practice the "m" sound in isolation or in CV combinations while playing, shopping, or getting ready for the Holidays.  Example:  While making cookies, "mmm," or playing dress up, "My purse." Words: Here are some worksheets from Testy Yet Trying to practice initial /m/ and final /m/ at the word level. Phrases:  Use this dice from Testy Yet Trying to play a game.  Roll the dice and take turns saying the word in a phrase or sentence.   

The Drum Sound

For the next few weeks we will be talking about our drum sound, "d!"  

Again use these sheets below to practice.  
Isolation/CV combos: practice the "d" sound in isolation or in CV combinations while playing with toys.  Example:  While stomping the dinosaur up the mountain, make the sound, "d, d, d" or the CV combo, "do" while playing cars, "Ready set, DO it!"  Words: Here are some worksheets from Heather's Speech Therapy to practice initial /d/ and finial /d/ at the word level. Phrases:  Again, these are from Heather's Speech Therapy.  Initial /d/ and final /d/ at the phrase level.  Enjoy!

The Tick-Tock Sound

For the next few weeks we will be focusing on our "Tick-Tock" sound.  

Again use these sheets below to practice.  Remember to make it a game or even just target this sound during play activities!  If your kiddo struggles with drill work, just say lots of words with the "t" sound in it while playing so that your child hears the correct production of this sound over and over!  Just have fun with it and the more naturalistic the better!  :) 
Isolation: practice the "T" sound in isolation in front of the mirror or even a video camera.  You can show your little one our Tick-Tock picture (above) while you work on it.  If you use a camera, record your practice and then watch it together after you finish! CV combos/Words: Here are two great posts with initial /t/ and final /t/ from Testy Yet Trying. Follow the directions provided. Phrases:  use the cards provided above to make 2-3 word phrases ("The big boot." etc.) Have fun with our "T" sound!

Popcorn Popping

Next week is all about Popcorn! We are talking about our sound of the week, our "Popcorn Sound" and doing lots of fun things with popcorn.  For next week we are focusing on /p/ in isolation, consonant-vowel combinations, and words.  The last week in October we will work on /p/ in phrases.

Again use these sheets below to practice.  Remember to make it a game or even just target this sound during play activities!  If your kiddo struggles with drill work, just say lots of words with the "p" sound in it while playing so that your child hears the correct production of this sound over and over!  Just have fun with it and the more naturalistic the better!  :)

  I will be reading one of my favorite Halloween stories.  I found these cute visuals over at Sandy Toes and Popsicles!  Our weekly handout is from Super Duper and talks all about present, past, and future tense. We focused mainly on past tense -ed during large group this week, so you can do the same while playing this week!  Happy Fall Break!

Our Bouncing Ball Sound!

For the next 2 weeks we will be working on our "Bouncing Ball" sound during large group!  For the first week we will work on "b" in isolation and CV combinations.  The second week we will focus on words and phrases!

At home, again use these sheets below to practice.  Remember to make it a game or even just target this sound during play activities!  If your kiddo struggles with drill work, just say lots of words with the "b" sound in it while playing so that your child hears the correct production of this sound over and over!  Just have fun with it and the more naturalistic the better!  :)

Sound of the Month

I would like to start focusing on a sound of the month during Large Group activities to help a little more with articulation skills during that time.  I wanted to work on some of the early developing sounds, which means that I have to double up for the next 2 months.  So I guess for October and November there will be "sounds" of the month.  ;)  For the months that there is only one sound we will first work on the sound in isolation, consonant-vowel (CV) combinations, then in words, and for the last week, phrases.  I'm planning to just do one post for each sound that includes resources for the sound at each of these levels, so be sure to refer back to that post throughout the month if you would like to work on things at home.  
For the remainder of this month we are going to be talking about "W" or our windy sound. 

Since we only have a week and a bit to work on this sound we will focus on "W" in isolation and CV combinations this week and words and phrases the next week.  At home use these sheets below to practice.  You can make it into a game, put puzzle pieces on each picture and let your little one place the piece into the puzzle after they say the target combo, word, or phrase, try the candy or cereal trick again, drive trucks over each one as you say the sound/word...really just have fun with it!
